An architecture competition initiated by Akzonobel and Himpunan Desain Interior Indonesia ( HDII ), the aim is to design a 35 m² living space, functionally and liveable for the inhabitants who live inside. Along with increasing years, many emerging types of an interior in a building. Including Industrial style. This style used a monochromatic color spectrum and using industrial materials, such as rustic metal, exposed concrete and recycled timber. Mostly, applied in a commercial building ( cafe, restaurant to showroom ). But this style is rarely applied in a house.

For the first time, post-industrial urban style will be applied on the design of a house. Why called it Post-urban ? because design based on urban culture approach ( efficient, functional and street culture )

Design approach divided into 2 main concepts, they are MICRO CONCEPT ( Building system ) and MACRO CONCEPT ( Building Form )

A. MICRO CONCEPT ( Building System )

– The flexibility of Space ; each of space has a different function but still connected. Sometimes space becomes part of the context of temporary activities. Therefore, the design approach based on the inhabitants’ activity is needed in order to accommodate several activities without leaving the main function itself

– Activity and Interaction ; homes it’s not just a house, but also is a context that gives an opportunity to has some interaction and communication with each other. Therefore, it’s a crucial way to divide a zoning and circulation to reach contextual composition space

– Sustainable Technology ; the used of green building system are very efficient to solve the global warming issue. Therefore, the application of sustainable technologies will help maintain our ecosystem environment. They are :

  1. The used of improved reuse and recycle material
  2. Maximize the skylight roof to reduce the used of artificial lights in a daytime
  3. Create a Reflecting pool as a passive cooling system on the building in order to help maintain the air circulation inside the building
  4. Use a photosynthesis system in order to gain more electricity from the living plants and also that can be used to support electricity needs for daily activities
  5. Applied zero water discharge concept to minimalize the used of fresh water and get some clear water from grey water
  6. Provide an urban farming space to support the daily needs of inhabitants who live inside the building

B. MACRO CONCEPT ( Building Form )

– Tropical Architecture style ; is about overcoming shadow and air circulation, with understanding the climate and weather then do a design approach in order to answer the problem and see potential in a site

– Material as a Visual Image ; material differentiation on a space is an effort to create space without a wall but visually people can feel it. Besides that, a refractive element and shadow on a space create distinctive character for each material

COMPETITION RESULT : SUBMISSION ENTRY
